Bunker Hill PTO

Text Message Program

How the Bunker Hill PTO sends text notifications and how you opt in

Who we are

Bunker Hill Elementary School PTO is a volunteer-run, non-profit parent-teacher organization supporting Bunker Hill Elementary School at 6620 Shelbyville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46237. We run the Bunker Hill PTO Portal (bunkerhillpto.org) so parents, guardians, and school staff can see events and fundraisers, sign up to volunteer, manage PTO tasks, and message one another. Questions: board@bunkerhillpto.org.

What we text, and who receives it

Text messages are transactional notifications tied to a person's own activity in the Portal. There is no marketing or promotional texting. You only receive the specific message types you turn on for yourself.

Message typeWho can receive itExample
Task assigned / task due soon / task updated Account holders who opt in and are assigned to that task "Bunker Hill PTO: You've been assigned the task 'Set up tables' for the Fall Festival. Details: bunkerhillpto.org/tasks"
New member awaiting approval Board members who opt in "Bunker Hill PTO: A new member is awaiting approval. Review: bunkerhillpto.org/board/users"
Event volunteer reminder / thank-you Anyone who checks the text-reminder box on that event's volunteer sign-up form "Bunker Hill PTO: Reminder - you're volunteering for the Fall Festival this Saturday at 9:00 AM. Details: bunkerhillpto.org/events/fall-festival"

How you opt in

SMS is off by default in every case. Opting in always requires checking an unchecked checkbox on a web form on bunkerhillpto.org. Consent to receive texts is never a condition of using the Portal, of volunteering, or of any purchase.

1. Account holders — Profile → Notifications

After signing in, a member goes to Profile → Notifications and checks the box in the SMS column for each notification type they want by text (a phone number on the profile is required). The disclosure shown next to the grid reads:

"By enabling an SMS notification, you consent to receive text messages from the Bunker Hill PTO for that notification type. Message frequency varies by activity — typically a handful of texts a month at most. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help; you can also turn SMS off anytime right here. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy."

2. Event volunteers — volunteer sign-up form

On a public event volunteer sign-up page (for example bunkerhillpto.org/volunteer/<event>), a person enters their name and phone number and checks this box:

"Text me reminders about this event at the number above. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy."

This consent covers reminders and a thank-you for that one event only.
